History of Skinney's
Skinney’s was founded in 1943 when
Skinney McNeese bought the old restaurant from Ed McCarthy. Skinney's wife, Marie, used to cook the sauce at home and it was there that someone first smelled
what was to become a famous BBQ sauce. She worked on the sauce until
perfected and it was used at Skinney’s for the next 34 years. Jimmy Smith
(Magnolia Motors) then bought the restaurant from Skinney in 1977 and he and
Ralph Smith (Cleveland Browns pro football ) ran the restaurant until 1999
when It was purchased by Mr. Kent and Ms. Eloise Muse.
I have had the joyful opportunity to work with the Muse Family on numerous occasions while entertaining in the lounge. The Muse family operated the facility until August 31, 2009 at which time I purchased Skinney's.
My staff and I will strive to keep the traditional Skinney's BBQ alive as it has been a local favorite, and has drawn many patrons from many surrounding areas. I have also added some seafood dishes and lighter plate lunches to accommodate the needs of the entire family.
